In “Bloodplay,” Soren confesses their desire to be utterly destroyed by a personified Love, who brutally humiliates and tortures the object of its affection. Although Soren’s poems are deeply sobering, their collection culminates in a desire for liberation from all the dogmas, doctrines, and thought processes that have damaged them, as they encounter love that is affirming instead of harmful, and declare that they are their own salvation.
