I saw this movie the year it came out; so, you know I’m no spring chicken. Susan Hayward does an outstanding job as the real-life singer, Jane Froman. The supporting cast is excellent with Rory Calhoun and Thelma Ritter who never failed to be the best at every role she had. The music in this appeals to me as I’m an old soul who prefers the Big Band music and the 50’s and 60’s. Susan Hayward deserved an Oscar for her performance. Great view!

It has been many years since the 1952 movie “With a song in my heart” has been broadcasted on UK Freeview Television, so it has been really great to be able to see this in DVD clarity, rather than the old TV-recorded VHS tape (it was recorded while a thunder storm was raging, so therefore many glitches in the recording!).
The movie itself is a biopic about the famous singing star Jane Froman who was very popular in the 1940’s, including during the Second World War. She was involved in a horrendous ‘plane crash, suffering many severe injuries, but she was determined to continue her career and gave many concerts to wounded soldiers involved in the conflict.

It is just as good as I remember it and I’m sure I will enjoy it many more times now that I have my own copy. It was packaged well and arrived in a timely manner (even before I was expecting it).

This is an excellent move for the entire family. Some of the songs bring back memories of college days. Jane Froman was a stage, radio, and television star for thirty years. She had to overcome chronic health problems due to injuries sustained in a 1943 plane crash. This is her life story portrayed by Susan Hayward who was nominated for the academy award for Best Actress for her performance.

I’m not normally a big fan of musicals, but this movie, a bio of a musical star, has such a dramatic bent and a human relationship thread, that it transcends genres. The performance of Miss Hayward stacks up well against her best performances, even if the singing is Miss Froman’s. The film records the near-death plane accident and the long, arduous recovery endured by Miss Froman in all its gruesome detail. Near the end of the film there is a musical tribute to various states, while she is entertaining troops, that should not be missed by ANYONE! But the real heart-warming moment is when she draws out a shell-shocked soldier, whom she had previously met state-side. This is a wonderful movie.
